Heyyyyyyy, how’s everyone doing? Good, I hope!! So yesterday I was sitting at my desk (the kitchen table) working and I kept seeing this poor piece of furniture that could use a facelift out of the corner of my eye…….handsome hubby’s bar old bar stool. Now if you know me you know I have a tendency of doing DIY projects around the house while handsome hubby is not at home (tell me I’m not the only one) so his barstool was no exception. Honestly, I have no idea why it was even upstairs it stays in the downstairs studio, so fair game right?
It was getting late in the day and I knew Hubby would be home in less than 2 hours, plenty of time for me to transform the ole barstool, so I grabbed it and headed to the studio for the makeover. I had no idea what I was going to do with it but I was ready to go so the first thing I did was sanded the seat using 220 grit sanding paper and my Dewalt sander. I down to the raw wood, which didn’t take but just a few minutes. Then I lightly sanded over the legs just to make sure it would be smooth and ready to paint.
Before you get ready to paint remember to clean the piece, it only takes a few minutes. I use TSP mixed with warm water and do a quick wipe down.
Now because I was flying by the seat of my pants which is pretty normal for me, I saw I had some Dixie Belle VooDoo Gel Stain in Tobacco Road so I used that for the seat. This gel stain is water-based so it’s super easy to use without the smells of oil-based stains and it dries super quick. #yay The VooDoo gel comes in a squirt type bottle so I just squirted some on and rubbed it in good with a cloth rag…SUPER EASY!
Once I had the seat stained I grabbed Dixie Belle Yankee Blue and started painting the legs. (Dixie Belle paint has great coverage and dries fast) My first coat of paint was complete but since I was trying to finish before Hubby got home I took the heat gun to it to speed up the already quick trying time and added one more coat of Yankee Blue. You want to make sure you are doing nice thin coats, Dixie Belle is a self-leveling paint so thin coats are best.
As I was finishing up I kept looking at the seat loving how the VooDoo stain made it look like an old barrel but thought it needs a little something extra so thanks to my little stash of transfers I found the perfect one to take the stool to the next level!! WooHoo!! Transfers aren’t for everyone but I love them and they are so easy to use just follow the steps on the packaging and Voila!
So at this point, the stool was complete with time to spare before Hubby got home howev
Handsome Hubby came home and as usual laughed at my craziness but he loved the new look and I hope you do too!! In less than 2 hours this stool went from drab to fab with Hubby’s approval!
